My heartfelt thanks also go to the Valeska Gert Visiting Professorship Board of Directors for making this extraordinary opportunity possible: Gabriele Brandstetter, Nele Hertling, Silvia Fehrmann, and Elizabeth Nehring. No other text has had a greater and more lasting impact than Genesis, the first book of Moses; three world religions acknowledge it.
What happens when we (re)read these historical scriptures today in the context of the current global political situation?
What images of God have inscribed themselves in our cultural DNA through the stories of the beginning up to the present day?
And what do our ideas of social cohesion, love, faith, and beauty have to do with the concept of sacrifice?

Through the playful deconstruction of myths and stories—both ancient and contemporary—an evocative, associative performance in five chapters emerges, centered around existential questions.
Saar Magal, working at the intersection of dance, performance, and theater, explores the connection between religion, ideology, violence, and bodies; the breaking of patriarchal structures; communication; and a peaceful future.
